MDown Privacy Policy

MDown is a native macOS markdown editor that runs entirely on your Mac. No accounts, no sync, no analytics — your documents are just files on your disk.

Data collection

MDown does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. No analytics, no telemetry, no tracking, no accounts, no sign-in. MDown never phones home.

Network access

MDown contacts no servers of ours. The app holds the standard macOS network-client entitlement for a single reason: when a document you open references a remote image, the rendered view loads that image directly from the site you linked — exactly as a web browser would, and only because your document asked for it. That connection is between your Mac and that third party, never Oxbow Labs. Diagrams (Mermaid) and code syntax highlighting are bundled inside the app and render fully offline.

Local storage

Everything MDown stores stays on your Mac, using standard macOS mechanisms. Your preferences — editor appearance, default view mode, and window state — are saved in UserDefaults. Security-scoped bookmarks, kept through macOS's document infrastructure, let you reopen recent files. File timestamps are read only to support normal open and save operations. None of this ever leaves your device.

Sending feedback

If you choose Help → "Send Feedback," MDown opens a pre-filled email in your default mail client that includes basic diagnostic details — app version, macOS version, and hardware info — to help us troubleshoot. Nothing is sent automatically: you choose whether to send it, and you can edit or delete anything first.

Third-party services

None. MDown includes no third-party analytics, advertising, or data-collecting SDKs. The open-source components it bundles (such as Mermaid and highlight.js) run locally and send nothing anywhere.

Children's privacy

MDown does not collect any data from anyone, including children.

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL.
