Scratch Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 5, 2026

Scratch is a native macOS scratchpad that keeps everything on your device. All of it.

Data collection

Scratch does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. No analytics, no tracking, no telemetry, no accounts.

Network access

Scratch makes no network requests and has no network permission at all. The app cannot phone home because there is no phone.

Local storage

Your pages live in a local database inside the app's own sandboxed container, with daily backups kept alongside it, also on your device. Preferences (hotkey, appearance, font size) are stored in macOS UserDefaults. When you export your pages as Markdown, the files are written only to the folder you pick, and Scratch touches nothing else on your file system.

Third-party services

None. Scratch includes no analytics, advertising, tracking, or network SDKs, and talks to no third-party services. The open-source libraries it bundles — GRDB for SQLite storage and KeyboardShortcuts for hotkey handling — run entirely on your device and do not transmit data anywhere.

Children's privacy

Scratch does not collect any data from anyone, including children.
